Sing me a Cadence

One day I will write a cadence and march to it as I shout it out. I served in the Air Force from 1992-1998. It was an experience that only those who have served could understand and truly appreciate. My fondest memories are those in basic training, but more specifically, when we marched to the cadences our military instructor taught us. Cadences, aka jodies, helped us survive the intense hot August days. TSgt. Bagdasarian would sing out a line and we would repeat it:

“Hey, hey, hey, hey….wo, wo, wo, wo”

followed by

“Mama, mama look at me,
Look what the Air Force done to me.
Took away my tennis shoes,
Now I’m wearing combat boots.”
